4 Ways to get Freelance Gigs Offline

Sometimes when we hear about getting freelance jobs, the thing that comes to our mind is getting them online. However, do you know that you can get lots of freelance jobs offline as well?

I got some of my freelance jobs offline, and you too can!

However, whenever you are preparing to go out and get jobs, here are some of the things you need to consider:

  • Research: research about the people you want to visit, as well as the places you are going, e.g when you are going to a networking event for instance. When you research, you get an idea of what to expect.
  • Be prepared: be prepared, think about how you will drive your points home. What are those things you will say? How will you present your position? etc.

With that being said, here are some of the ways you can get freelance gigs offline:

1. Networking events: one of the places you can get jobs is networking events, not just networking events, but relevant networking events in your area of industry or specialization. Before attending networking events, it is important that you prepare for the event. You need to have a good sales pitch handy so that you can easily tell prospective clients what you do and how you can be of help to them. In addition, you need to research on some of the people that will be at the event (this is if you know about  some of the guests or panelists that will be present at the event.) Also, you need to prepare to speak to or pitch your freelance business to some of the people you would like to work with or people you would like them to offer you jobs. Don’t forget that you need to have your contact or business card ready so you can give to people who have demonstrated a certain amount of interest in your freelance business. Remember that you don’t have to give everyone your business card, you need to give those who have shown a reasonable amount of interest in your work. Not only that, you also need to follow-up with those people.

2. Attend job fairs: another way you get freelance job gigs offline is to attend good job fairs that credible companies or people organize. At job fairs, you can meet prospective employers or clients who might be interested in hiring you for a job. When attending job fairs, you need to be prepared. You need to research about employers that will be attending the job fair and prepare to visit the ones that are relevant to the kind of work you want to do or the industry you want to work in. You also need to take copies of your CV and portfolio along with you (if it is offline); if your portfolio is online, you can share the link with your prospective client/employer. You might also get impromptu interviews at the job fair, and so, you need to prepare for interviews, and so on.

3. Visit trusted prospective employers/clients: another thing you need to do is to visit trusted prospective employers/clients who might have shown interest in what you do. if they have shown interest, then they are a lead; and you can visit them to convince them more about your services the more, who know they might want to become your clients!

4. Tell your friends and families what you do: you never can tell who might be interested in your services among your friends and families. Tell them what you do and show them samples of what you do. They might even refer you to someone that might need your services, even if they don’t need your services.
