Though it is common knowledge that to be successful as a freelance writer you have to make your clients 200% happy is that right?
As you move forward as a professional writer, keep these six secrets of successful freelancers in your mind:
- Don’t create extra work
Your clients are busy people that’s the main reason they hired you to do their heavy duty so don’t burden them with an article that they will spend half the day revising and getting it into their content management system. If you can eliminate typos, properly format your piece and make it utterly easy for your clients to just copy and paste, they will keep hiring you.
- Persistence pays off
The persistence writer is the one who gets there in the end. If you’re the type of writer who has a lot of talent but can’t handle rejection because it is not every time your article will be good, then you’re done for.
If your work is rejected send it back ASAP, find another market for it.
- Don’t be afraid of new topics
After you might have gained some writing experience, look for work outside your comfort zone. The button line of the matter is – a good freelancer can write on pretty much any topic thrown at them. They just have to be willing to put in the necessary research to make it happen.
- Create your brand
A brand representation is pivotal and it can’t be overemphasized. As a freelancer your brand is your “bread and butter” you want to be the go-to person for interesting web content, a new ad campaign and so on.
You can achieve this by promoting yourself and your work through social networking sites, blogs and positive word of mouth.
There is no limit to what a brand image can do and the intention behind a brand is simply client trust. A successful freelancer understands that a brand is an extremely valuable business asset and they promote it constantly.
- Go out and network
The best freelancers go to meetups to network with new people. They put themselves out there, tell people they’re looking for freelance work. This can especially be hard for an introvert but it is much harder to get work without establishing some in-person relationship.
Most freelancers get jobs through referrals, so it’s a great idea to create actual connections. You will find new gigs in surprising places.
