Hello, freelancers! Here is another interview session and today we had the privilege of speaking with Tamaratokoni Okpewho, and she gave us insights into her career journey as a Computer scientist and a writer!
Enjoy our interview with her.
Princess Tamaratokoni Okpewho; also known as Toks David is an indigene of Delta state. She’s a writer with a BSc in Computer Science, currently working with one of the firms in Nigeria.
- How long have you been writing?
That should be since my secondary school days; 2006/2007.
- How long have you been freelancing?
I officially started freelancing in 2014.
- In the course of your freelancing, what are some of the challenges you faced and how did you overcome them?
A whole lot, but I’ll place more emphasis on the writer’s block and criticism. Writer’s block could be terrible at times especially when you set a target for yourself and you can’t meet up with that target. Criticism from your readers can also affect your mindset too. I’ve been able to overcome these challenges by sitting down and allowing my mind to do its work, I try not to force anything and I use those criticisms to boost myself up.
- What are your favourite tools for working?
WordPress, VSCO, and Google.
- Tell us about your works
Well, I write a lot of fictional stories and poems too. You can see more on www.toksdavid.com
- How do you motivate yourself to write?
I just tell myself “YOU CAN DO THIS” and I also study the lives of different individuals and allow myself to blend into my environment.
- What is something you’ve learnt about freelancing that others can learn also from?
Learn to take your time, don’t be in a rush because of pressure or any other external forces. And again don’t go into freelancing when it is not your calling.
- Tell us about one of your works you consider as your favorite
I love all my works but I love my fictional stories more basically because I don’t believe I could write that good but😃😄 my best should be A patient’s tale, this one took me a whole lot of time to write.
- What is your best writing tip?
Hmmm….tip.. Well…that should be, let your pen do the magic. Reading other people’s blog could go a long way for you.
- What is your best freelancing tip?
Social media goes a long way, relating with other freelancers helps too.
- What advice would you give to a budding freelancer or writer?
Learn to believe in yourself, do not force any of your writeups. Always be in a relaxed mode before you write. And always put God first.
